The minister of Energy and Mineral Development Ruth Nankabirwa has today officiated at the 1st Oil and Gas Skills Expo 2023 held at the International University of East Africa (IUEA) in Kansanga, Kampala.
The 2023 Expo was organized under the Theme:Unveiling the career and training opportunities in the Oil and Gas sector in Uganda.
Nankabirwa who represented the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja while addressing the gathering expressed dissatisfaction to people who have intentions to sabotage the development of Uganda’s Oil and Gas.
“Any person who de-campaigns the development of Oil and Gas in Uganda is an economic saboteur”,said Dr.Nankabirwa
She added that the priority for the employment opportunities in areas where Oil and Gas was discovered were given to Ugandans at all levels with positive discrimination to communities hosting the operation.
“That person with intentions to sabotage our Oil and Gas is not only evil but doesn’t have the spirit of Uganda and East Africa at large. There is what we call positive discrimination for the good of the majority in the community for stance the Banyoro call Oil their oil. If we don’t give them a priority in terms of Job opportunities, we shall be doing a disservice to them” she noted.
She further confirmed that over 16000 people are expected to be employed in the Oil and Gas sector and 94% are Ugandans.
Uganda is now one of the established petroleum countries in the world with an estimated volume of 6.5 billion barrels of Oil sufficient to commercial production of petroleum in the country.
