The 2025 Annual Bankers Sports Gala, organized by the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA), wrapped up over the weekend with an exciting showcase of teamwork, fitness, and unity among Uganda’s top financial institutions.

The multi-day event brought together banks and other financial organizations to compete in a range of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, netball, darts, and fun games like the sack race.
Among the standout performers was Equity Bank Uganda, which claimed an impressive third-place overall finish, further cementing its reputation as a powerhouse both in banking and on the sports field.
The annual gala aims to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and a healthy work culture in the banking sector. Equity Bank’s athletes delivered stellar performances across multiple disciplines, reflecting the bank’s strong commitment to employee wellness, unity, and inclusivity.
Earlier in October, the volleyball team clinched a silver medal, setting the tone for the bank’s overall strong showing at the main event. This time around, the Tug of War team pulled their way to victory, finishing as 1st Runners-Up, a testament to the team’s strength, coordination, and resilience.
Adding to the celebrations, Equity Bank’s Executive Director, Mr. Claver Serumaga, showcased personal excellence by winning Gold in the CEO Walk, earning Team Equity an additional 50 points and inspiring the entire team with his leadership both on and off the field.
Photos from the event captured the energy and pride of the Equity Bank team, dressed in their black uniforms and white caps, posing confidently before an Equity-branded banner — a true display of teamwork, passion, and diversity.

The 2025 gala featured competitions across indoor and outdoor venues, with Equity Bank’s teams performing notably well in volleyball, football, basketball, and other categories. Their enthusiasm and discipline stood out throughout the games.
A major highlight of this year’s event was the gender inclusivity rule, requiring at least two female players per team in select games. Equity Bank fully embraced this initiative, with its female athletes playing key roles in securing the overall podium finish.
The event concluded with a colorful awards ceremony, where Equity Bank proudly received its third-place trophy amidst cheers from supporters and fellow participants. Other major contenders included Bank of Africa, DFCU, and Citi Bank, underscoring the high level of competition.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Equity Bank Uganda applauded its team’s effort, saying:
“The spirit, the effort, the energy is unmatched! We’re proud of the journey and even more fired up for next year!”
The gala also featured a 3km commemorative run, part of UBA’s ongoing 21-day fitness challenge promoting healthy living among banking professionals.
Equity Bank Uganda plans to enhance its training programs and recruit more athletic talent in preparation for the 2026 edition. Earlier participation in the Corporate Sports Network (CSN) League has already given the team valuable experience to build upon.
The gala was more than just a competition—it was a vibrant community event. Equity Bank’s presence was felt through its branded tents, energetic cheering squad, and family-friendly atmosphere. Staff, families, and local residents joined in the festivities, creating a sense of community and togetherness.
As the curtain falls on the 2025 Bankers Sports Gala, Equity Bank Uganda stands tall—not just as a leading financial institution, but as a symbol of teamwork, wellness, and resilience. With their sights set on an even stronger performance next year, Team Equity is already gearing up to go for gold in 2026.
