URA Commends Tembo Steels for contributing to Ugandan Economy

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), a government revenue collection agency operating under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has commended Tembo Steels (U) Ltd for their contribution to national development through paying taxes and social corporate responsibility (CSR).

During a guided tour of the Tembo Steels Plants at Lugazi in Buikwe and Iganga , the URA team led by Mr. Abel Kagumire the Commissioner of Customs and  Mrs Chelangat Sarah Muzungyo , Commissioner of Domestic Taxes Department applauded Tembo acknowledging the importance of taxes in funding essential public services and reducing reliance on foreign aid. The team also emphasizes that taxes are not just financial obligations but investments in the country’s future and much appreciated Tembo for greatly contributing to the economy.

URA officials were impressed by Tembo Steel’s innovations, which have made it a world-class steel company leading in primary steel production.

Mr Sanjay Awasthi, the Chairman Tembo Steels (U) Ltd accompanied by Mr. Manish, the General Manager of Tembo Steels hailed the ruling government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment through strategic policies that has enabled investors to establish investments across the country.

Tembo Steels is among Uganda’s largest Tax Payers recognized for its compliance. Taxation has boosted Uganda’s economy by raising resources for governments to deliver essential public services that are fundamental to functioning communities, such as health care, schools, and social services.

Early this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commissioned a new Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant at Tembo Steels in Kasolo Village, Bulamagi Sub-County, Iganga District. The new facility marks a major milestone in Uganda’s industrialization journey, with Tembo Steels reaffirming its position as a key player in the country’s steel industry.

Established in 2004, Tembo Steels has grown into a major manufacturing hub, producing steel, oxygen cylinders, and nitrogen. The company sources its raw materials locally, significantly contributing to Uganda’s economy and creating over one million jobs for Ugandans.
