“Fishing the fishermen,” describes what happened today at Bukungu landing site on the shores of Lake Kyoga as hundreds of people, mainly fishermen, responded to an altar call by the Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.
Bukungu landing site is in Bukungu Parish, Buyende Archdeaconry in Buyende District, at the edge of the Busoga Diocese.
Archbishop Kaziimba, in his sermon, made reference to Jesus Christ calling fishermen to follow him, saying, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). He urged the fishing community to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, and hundreds responded to the altar call.
He advised them to live responsibly and avoid careless behavior of alcoholism, sexual immorality and poor planning. He urged them to save and plan with their spouses to look after their Children and to remain focused onto Jesus Christ.
Today morning, Archbishop Kaziimba, with Busoga Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Naimanhye, clergy, and other leaders, toured the construction of two ferries and watched a boat competition by the fishermen.
He thanked the President of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the government for availing ferries at Lake Kyoga to ease transport and boost trade.
Archbishop Kaziimba arrived in Busoga Diocese yesterday, Friday, July 5th, 2024 and was welcomed by Bishop Paul Naimanhye, and Mama Lydia Naimanhye, along with Archdeacons and Christians.
Tomorrow, Sunday, July 7th, 2024, he will be the Main Celebrant in the Service at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe. He will also visit a number of projects including Mary’s House of Mothers Union under construction, One World Medical Center, and will officially open the Busoga Diocesan SACCO.
He will then proceed to Arua in Madi West Nile Diocese for a Pastoral Visit to Uganda Christian University Arua Campus on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, as the University Chancellor.
