The Lord Mayor of Kampala City His Worship Erias Lukwago, on Tuesday, visited the burnt Wabiduku Market in Balimtuma Zone, Kiwatule Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala City, to assess the situation of traders, who lost their valuables to the inferno that engulfed the market and homes, on Monday.

The fire, believed to have originated from one of the temporary wooden structures, quickly spread to adjacent areas according to authorities. Tragically, four individuals have lost their lives in the incident, and their bodies, regrettably burnt beyond recognition, have been recovered.

Flanked by the Area MPs and authority Councilors among other local Leaders, Lukwago was told by the market leaders how the incident happened, revealing that the fire surged from some wooden structure and spread to other adjoining shops, including homes and razed them down.

The leadership of the market said some vendors are worried about how they are going to pay back loans after losing their businesses.

According to Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, a team from the Fire Prevention and Rescue has initiated an investigation to determine the root cause of the fire.

He added that the deceased persons’ remains have been respectfully conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination.
