Tembo Steels Ltd Innovation , Technology Impresses Ministry of Works and Transport delegation

Officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) have commended the proprietors of Tembo Steels limited , the most diversified, integrated company in Africa for their cutting age Innovation and technology which have rapidly transformed steel production, driving towards greater sustainability, efficiency, and product quality.

The delegation from MoWT which is mandated to plan, develop, and maintain transport infrastructure and services, manage public works, and promote good standards in the construction industry, was conducting a guided tour at the Tembo Steels factories in Iganga and Buikwe on July 28 2025 where they overwhelmed hailed the company for their technology in hydrogen-based steelmaking, digitalization, automation, and advanced materials.

‘’These advancements are reshaping the industry, enabling new possibilities in design, construction, and manufacturing. As Ministry of Works and Transport we are impressed with Tembo Steels for this state of the art innovation, technology, and company’s commitment towards sustainability’’, said one of the officials from MoWT.

The officials who were welcomed by Mr. Manish Kalla, the General Manager of Tembo Steels and other factory administrators , said Tembo’s unique approach to research and production in the steel sector encourages Ugandans and the government to prioritize locally produced goods and services in their purchases.

‘’Government has created a more favorable environment for Ugandan businesses to thrive, innovate, and expand their production capacity. The Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) emphasizes that the implementation of BUBU is a shared responsibility between various government agencies and the private sector so we encourage every stakeholders to learn from such manufacturers like Tembo who are promoting BUBU’’, added an official from  MoWT.

It should be noted that regionally , Tembo is the first & only operational 10 Stand Block Mill for producing 5mm wire rod. First & only operational 18 stand Horizontal Vertical Section Mill through direct rolling. First company to produce TMT in Uganda. First company to produce 6mm TMT through integrated process. Largest Capacity of Wire Rod in East Africa till date. Largest Production capacity of light and medium sections in East Africa. Highest Production of O2 & N2 Gases in East Africa. Only company to have capacity of producing various grades of stainless steel.

It is also the only company to have the capacity of producing welding rod through integrated process.
