Leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Iganga District have endorsed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential election, with the group announcing plans to collect 20 million signatures in support of his bid.

The 2031 endorsement activity in Iganga was presided over by Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, together with Jacque Namuyonga among other dignitaries.
Minister Sanjay Tanna, cautioned members of the public against individuals allegedly using the name of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to extort money from civil servants.

Tanna said some people were allegedly asking civil servants who had been interdicted by Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara for money, claiming they could facilitate their reinstatement.
“Report such kind of people with such intentions to any nearby security personnel because you are being robbed of your money,” he said.
Tanna also said members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) needed to identify a possible successor to President Yoweri Museveni.
“As members of the NRM party, there is need to identify a possible successor to the incumbent president to avoid being taken unaware,” he said.
He credited voters in Busoga for supporting the NRM and opposition candidates aligned with the ruling party during the recent elections, saying this reflected appreciation of what he described as peace and economic transformation under the NRM.
Hon. Jacque Aguram Namuyonga a seasoned lawyer, prominent political mobilizer for NRM and PLU and who doubles as the National Vice Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League emphasized that while groundwork is already underway, the exercise will now intensify aggressively across the region and ripple outward into all corners. She stressed that the ruling NRM and the PLU are fundamentally one, and must remain closely united in their mission.
The endorsement drive follows a formal announcement by the PLU Chairman’s Office declaring that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba will contest the presidency in the 2031 general elections. The campaign and endorsement strategy are being undertaken with the approval and guidance of President Museveni, with the Office of the PLU National Chairman distributing designated registration volumes across districts, sub-regions, and municipalities to build a verified supporter database ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
