PRAU Launches 5th National PR Symposium to Advance Strategic Communications for Effective Organisations

The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) has today launched the 5th National Public Relations Symposium at MultiChoice Uganda head offices in Kololo, Kampala Uganda. The symposium will take place on 3rd July at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

The 5th National PR Symposium marks one of the flagship activities leading to PRAU’s official Golden Jubilee celebrations in October and will run under the theme, “Beyond Headlines: Strategic Communication for Effective Organisations,”.

The event will bring together communications professionals, policymakers, corporate executives, development communication practitioners, government communicators, academia, students and international public relations experts to examine the evolving role of strategic communication in shaping Uganda’s development agenda.

Speaking during the launch, PRAU President Irene Nakasiita expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners and the media fraternity for supporting the association’s journey towards its 50th anniversary. She highlighted that the milestone represents not only its institutional longevity but also the growing recognition of public relations as an essential driver of organizational credibility, stakeholder trust and national development.

She emphasized the growing importance of strategic communication in helping organisations navigate misinformation, digital disruption, reputational risks and evolving stakeholder expectations.

She said, ‘’The symposium comes at a time when organizations across both public and private sectors are increasingly navigating misinformation, digital disruption, reputational risks and rapidly changing stakeholder expectations. Against this backdrop, PRAU believes strategic communication has become indispensable in enabling institutions to remain transparent, accountable and resilient’’.

The days programme will feature distinguished speakers drawn from public relations, marketing, advertising, human resource management, government institutions, civil society organizations and international communication networks. Through expert panel discussions, case studies and interactive sessions, participants will explore practical approaches to strengthening institutional communication, managing crises, building public trust and leveraging strategic narratives for sustainable impact.

The event will also reflect PRAU’s commitment to strengthening collaboration across professional bodies. Sister organizations including the Human Resource Managers’ Association of Uganda, the Uganda Marketers Society, the Uganda Advertisers Association and other professional networks have been invited to participate, reinforcing the growing convergence between communications, branding, marketing and organizational leadership.

Participation has been made accessible through subsidized registration fees of UGX 200,000 for PRAU paid up members, UGX 250,000 for non-members and UGX 70,000 for students.

This year’s National PR Symposium is sponsored by Bank of Uganda, Psalms Food Industries Limited, Crown Beverages Limited, Affinity Media, NRG Radio, Galaxy FM, QVibes, Uganda Red Cross Society, MultiChoice Uganda, and the Uganda Electoral Commission.

The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) is the umbrella body of all private and public professionals, communication specialists, brand managers, mass communication & other related disciplines’ striving to promote public relations in Uganda.

It was founded in 1976 as a membership-based professional body of Public Relations (PR) practitioners in Uganda. The association is affiliated to regional and global PR bodies such as the East African Public Relations Association (EAPRA), the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).
