Stakeholders in Uganda and the entire great lakes region are celebrating the victory of Namugongo based St Kizito High School, a centre of academic excellence in the region , after it emerged among the Top 10 Shortlisted Schools of the World’s Best School Prizes 2026 for the Environmental Action.

The school was selected from thousands of applications from schools worldwide as one of the 10 winners of the World’s Best School Prizes, an initiative from the organisation T4 Education,for world’s most prestigious education prizes.
The five World’s Best School Prizes – for Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Overcoming Adversity, and Supporting Healthy Lives – were established in the wake of COVID in 2022 to give a platform to schools that are transforming lives in their classrooms and beyond, showcasing and democratizing their best practices to help improve education everywhere.

The aim is to spotlight schools whose principals, teachers, and communities have demonstrated exemplary school culture, including leadership and innovation, to enhance the education and lives of their students.
St Kizito High school Namugongo has exemplified these qualities, and thus emerged among the best 10.

The World’s Best School Prizes, organized by T4 Education, feature a dual-track final voting procedure: one for the main awards decided by a Judging Academy, and a separate Public Vote that determines the Community Choice Award.
The Voting and Selection Procedure:
Top 10 Finalist Public Vote:
When the Top 10 finalists are announced, T4 Education opens a global public vote for the Community Choice Award.
Anyone in the world can cast a vote using their email address. You typically visit the voting page, review the stories and videos of the shortlisted schools, select St Kizito High School Namugongo, and verify your vote via a confirmation email.

This vote is independent of the main prizes and purely decides the Community Choice winner.
Main Prize Judging Academy Selection:
Concurrently, an Educator Committee narrows the applicants down to the Top 3 finalists for each category (e.g., Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Supporting Healthy Lives, and Overcoming Adversity).
Comprehensive evaluation packages for these Top 3 are sent to the Judging Academy—a distinguished panel of international leaders, educators, NGOs, and entrepreneurs.
The Judging Academy makes the final binding decision on the main prize winners.

Over the last 25 years since its establishment in 1998, St. Kizito High School Namugongo has maintained its position as a centre of academic excellence in Wakiso district, Kira Municipality, Central Uganda and the entire nation.

It should be remembered that last year, at a ceremony held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and attended by 11 heads of state, ministers, and business leaders, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed recognized the 2025 winners of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, with Uganda proudly being represented by St Kizito High School Namugongo after it emerged among the three finalists in sub-Saharan Africa.
The school was one of the three finalists in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa in the Global High Schools Category from the 6000 schools that contested for the award worldwide.
