TMR International Hospital Wins Centre of Excellence Award

TMR International Hospital has been recognized as a Centre of Excellence after winning at the first Annual Centre of Excellence Awards, held at Ascendismed International.

This prestigious recognition affirms TMR’s position as a leading healthcare institution delivering world-class, patient-centered, and outcomes-driven medical care in Uganda and the region. The award followed a comprehensive evaluation based on internationally aligned parameters, including infrastructure and investment, patient outcomes, quality indicators, service delivery systems, innovation, accreditation, and sustainability.

TMR International Hospital emerged as the top-performing facility, demonstrating excellence across all assessed pillars.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Daniel M. Talemwa , the Executive Director of TMR International Hospital highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system, noting that: “This recognition as a Centre of Excellence is not just an award for TMR, but a validation of what is possible when we deliberately invest in systems, people, and partnerships. We are intentionally working with partners such as Dr. Linderman and the Ascendismed team to strengthen clinical standards, innovation, and governance, with the ultimate goal of making Uganda’s healthcare system better, more resilient, and globally competitive. Our focus is to ensure that high-quality, specialized care is accessible here at home, and that Ugandans can receive world-class treatment without having to seek care abroad.”

The Guest of Honour, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, commended the quality of services being delivered by hospitals like TMR, emphasizing that such advancements are transforming healthcare delivery in the country.

He noted that: “The services being provided by hospitals like TMR are clear evidence that Uganda is advancing in healthcare, and this progress will significantly reduce the need to send patients to countries like India for medical care.”

The Chief Guest, Dr. Diana Atwiine, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, expressed the Ministry’s appreciation and optimism, stating that the Ministry was privileged to witness the awards ceremony and was hopeful that the recognized Centres of Excellence would continue to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare to all Ugandans.

TMR International Hospital’s recognition is built on a strong foundation of quality, innovation, and clinical leadership. The hospital is ISO certified in three international standards: · ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems · ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management Systems · ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health & Safety Notably, TMR was the first hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa to hold all three ISO certifications concurrently, underscoring its commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainability. TMR has also achieved several national and regional medical milestones, including: Being the first private hospital in Uganda to perform closed-heart surgery in September 2025 , Performing the first cochlear implant surgery at a private facility in 2018 ·, Being the first hospital to provide regenerative medicine services in East Africa, after opening a regional centre for regenerative medicine November 2025 .
