Fort Portal Beat Kibale 3-0 to Launch MTN Kabode Tooro Amasaza Cup Title Bid

Fort Portal Isaaza made a statement of intent in their tournament opener, securing a commanding 3-0 win over Kibale in front of a packed crowd at Rwamwanja Stadium, Kamwenge District, on Matchday 4 of the MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Football Tournament.

The visitors wasted no time asserting dominance, with Francis Alituha opening the scoring in the 12th minute before Musinguzi Patrick Pato doubled the lead just six minutes later, leaving Kibale stunned before the halftime whistle.

The second half saw Ivan Businge seal the result with a third goal in the 68th minute, rounding off an emphatic display that effectively eliminated Kibale from this year’s edition of the Amasaza Cup.

Speaking after the match, Fort Portal head coach Vanda Apuuli credited the result to preparation and attacking intent:

“We played a very good game and we deserved a win. We dominated the first half and created many opportunities which resulted in two goals.”

Businge, whose late strike capped off a fine performance, expressed confidence in his side’s ambitions:

“We have always played well, but a few mistakes have cost us. This time we are ready to win the trophy. Kibale rarely lose at home, but we played a very good game.”

On the other side of the result, Kibale defender Julius Kanyesigye admitted they were second-best on the day:

“Fort Portal played a very good game and dominated the match. We’re now focusing on the next tournament.”

The victory drew praise from tournament officials, with Fort Portal team official Steven Mwesige attributing the performance to strong teamwork and community backing, including support from politicians, religious and cultural leaders.

Meanwhile, Tooro Kingdom Sports Minister Michael Wandera commended the smooth progress of the tournament:

“The tournament has been largely peaceful and entertaining. The public has come out in large numbers, and we’ve identified several talented youths. We’re now working on linking them to professional clubs.”

With their sights now firmly set on a title run, Fort Portal Isaaza have announced themselves as serious contenders for the 2025 MTN Kabode Tooro Amasaza Cup, while Kibale’s journey ends early as they look ahead to future editions.
