AGM Solutions Ltd ,the sellers of Spiro electric motorcycles in Uganda on Wednesday received the special award for reducing Carbon footprint.

During the Indian Business Forum in Kampala, an arm of the Indian Association Uganda celebrating a decade of success in business and the role of Indian investors in boosting economic ties between Uganda and India, AGM was recognized for advancing Uganda’s green mobility vision, creating jobs, and reducing emissions at the event officiated by Thomas Tayebwa the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Hon. Evelyn Anite, Minister of State Privatization and Investment, Hon. David Bahati the current State Minister for Industry at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, and Upender Singh Rawat the High Commissioner of India to Uganda among other dignitaries.

‘’ We are glad to receive this award . Spiro Uganda, operational since June 2024, has sparked a significant shift in the boda boda sector, providing riders with affordable, sustainable alternatives to petrol bikes. With over 1,000 electric motorcycles now in the hands of Ugandan riders, the impact is evident as boda boda riders report a noticeable improvement in daily savings because they ride more, earn more, and spend less’’, said Bruce Mucunguzi the head of Commercial Spiro Uganda.

Flanked by Mr. Gaurav Anand, Spiro’s Country Head, Mucunguzi added that to enhance rider convenience, Spiro Uganda  deployed battery-swapping stations in Greater Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso, Jinja, and Mbarar and as part of a long-term commitment to the community, Spiro continues to work with local authorities and stakeholders to drive a cleaner, more inclusive future for transportation in Uganda.

At the event , the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa called on the Indian business community operating in Uganda to actively promote the country as a prime tourist destination among their compatriots.

He highlighted that Uganda’s economic blueprint relies heavily on attracting foreign visitors and investments, particularly from India, whose trade relations with Uganda have been steadily growing.

The forum, which brought together over 200 industry leaders from tourism, transport, logistics, and manufacturing, saw Tayebwa urge business players to leverage their networks in India to attract more tourists.

Reassuring investors, Tayebwa dismissed concerns about instability, stating that Uganda remains a secure and welcoming destination for business.

He emphasized that there is no threat of expulsion akin to the 1972 mass deportation of Asians under Idi Amin’s regime.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing over 50 industry leaders for their contributions.
