Brig Gen (Rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande has called on Ugandan youth to embrace good leadership skills and draw inspiration from the young leaders of the 1981 National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle. He emphasized that by doing so, they can play a significant role in steering the country towards greater progress.

Brig Gen Rwashande made the remarks today at Lwemiyaga Health Centre III while launching a cleaning exercise at the facility. The activity is part of the ongoing Tarehe Sita commemorations in the Greater Masaka region.

He praised President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief, for his visionary leadership, which has transformed the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) from a ragtag army into a respected international force contributing to peace across Africa.

Furthermore, he commended the UPDF for its initiative to give back to communities, highlighting the invaluable impact of such efforts. He recalled Masaka’s historical significance in the NRA’s struggle, noting that it served as a key route during the 1981 attack on Kabamba, which marked the beginning of the protracted liberation war that brought peace to Uganda.

He encouraged them to undertake leadership training to improve their management skills and effectively contribute to national development. Additionally, he urged them to embrace government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to help eradicate poverty.

Relatedly, Maj Gen (Rtd) Phinehas Katirima donated a book titled Struggle for Self-Determination to the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) teams. The book documents the history of the NRA and offers insights into social transformation.

The cleaning exercise was attended by local leaders and residents of Lwemiyaga, who expressed gratitude to the government for the prevailing peace and pledged to protect it. They also vowed to continue supporting government programs to improve their communities.
