A guard attached to a private security firm has been arrested on murder charges after he allegedly shot and killed a Market Vendor in Bugolobi, Kampala.
Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, identified the suspect as Aijuka Arode, a security guard attached to Security Plus Ltd.
According to Owoyesigire, on July 28, 2023, at approximately 9 pm, a distressing altercation occurred between Aijuka and a businesswoman, Mutesi Zainabu, aged 48, who operated a drinks and merchandise store within Bugolobi Market building.
‘’During the unfortunate confrontation, the security guard allegedly moved a distance of about three meters and fired a single shot at the store where the victim was situated. Mutesi Zainabu was critically injured and promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite all efforts, she tragically succumbed to the injuries she sustained. Her body was respectfully conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for Postmortem examination’’, noted Owoyesigire.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Police observed that the suspect had fled with his rifle. However, through diligent efforts, the police were able to apprehend the suspect on Saturday morning and he is currently detained at Jinja road Police.

Police also successfully recovered the suspected murder weapon.
