The Lord Mayor of Kampala City His Worship Erias Lukwago who doubles as the KCCA Football Club Patron, has on 9 Wednesday August 2023 made an impromptu visit of the Phillip Omondi Stadium currently under construction at Lugogo.
The 10,000-seater stadium, home of KCCA FC, will undergo a three-phase construction, at a total cost of Uganda Shs.10Billion with Phase one VIP wing currently under construction.
The new KCCA FC CAF-approved Stadium upon completion, will meet international standards with amenities such as; a Hospitality box, Restaurants, a Gymnasium, Club Offices, a Media tribunal, Dressings rooms, Partial Dormitory Accommodation and a Club Museum with records and portraits of the legendary players exhibited amongst others.
With a VIP seater capacity of 6284, the Stadium will greatly expand the income of KCCA FC, the record 13-times League Champions as well as create a good environment for its supporters and players.
The visit was guided by the Club Chairman Martin Ssekagya and a representative of the contractor.
MTN-Omondi Stadium, formally known as Phillip Omondi Stadium, is the home of Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club in Kampala, Uganda.
The stadium was formerly named Phillip Omondi Stadium after a club Legend- Phillip Omondi. The plan to expand the stadium is underway and was included in the club’s 5-year strategic plan.
In November 2020, MTN took over the naming rights for the stadium for a period of 10 years.
Club chairman Martin Sekajja noted that the construction works at the stadium are expected to be fully complete by December 2023.
