KAMPALA: The office of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Anitah Among has dismissed claims on social media that the security, deployed to guard retired soldiers, had been withdrawn, as false and baseless.
According to the speaker’s press office , a post allegedly tweeted by writer Kankwenza Rukirabashaija alleging that speaker Among security detail had been withdrawn from her making her susceptible ahead of a planned arrest over her involvement in the iron sheets scandal, is malicious and deceptive.
Joseph Sabit, One of Among’s Press officials noted that there has never been any security withdrawal from the speaker as alleged by Kankwenza.
“The speaker is very safe and enjoying her Eid leave with her husband and family in her village home in Bukedea” a source revealed.

Over 12,000 iron sheets were irregularly dished out to different cabinet ministers and government officials by Karamoja Affairs minister Mary Goretti Kitutu. Public pressure has been mounting on the wrongful beneficiaries and Kitutu has since pleaded guilty to mismanagement and apologized to the country.
“BREAKING NEWS:@AnitahAmong’s bodyguards have just been withdrawn. This means that as the 3rd in ‘power’ hierarchy, she’s vulnerable security-wise and gonna be arrested like a chicken thief and be charged with stealing iron sheets for Karamoja”, Kankwenza tweeted.
A disburse voucher from the Office of Prime Minister (OPM) indicates that Among was one of the beneficiaries, and received 500 pieces of iron sheets, which she distributed to government-aided schools in her constituency in Bukedea district.
However, Among recently purchased 500 iron sheets and directed her personal assistant to take them to the OPM stores to demonstrate transparency and accountability on her side.
Recently, the Anti-Corruption court remanded the state minister for Karamoja Affairs also Bududa Woman MP, Agnes Nandutu to Luzira prison over diverting iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja. Nandutu is now the third minister after Mary Goretti Kitutu and Amos Lugoloobi were arrested and remanded over the scandal that sucked in over several cabinet ministers , MPs and other local government officials.
