The Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the Republic of Sudan, H.E. Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu today, 16th October 2026, hosted a group of Ugandans living and working in Khartoum to a luncheon in honour of Uganda’s belated 64th Independence Anniversary at Bab Al Yemen Restaurant in Khartoum.

The luncheon brought together Ugandans from various professions based in Khartoum and provided an opportunity for the Embassy to interact with the community, listen to their concerns, and share updates on developments back home.
In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Ssemuddu congratulated the Ugandan community for their resilience and survival during the ongoing conflict in Sudan. He reminded them that despite the challenges, the spirit of the 64th Anniversary National Theme – *“Embracing Our Sovereignty with Hope and Visionary Leadership”* – should guide them.

He urged Ugandans in Sudan to exercise their sovereignty by being law-abiding guests and good ambassadors of Uganda in their host country.

In turn, members of the Ugandan community expressed appreciation to the Embassy for reaching out to them in Khartoum. They particularly thanked the Government of Uganda for its efforts in evacuating Ugandan citizens in 2023 when the conflict broke out.
The Ambassador advised Ugandans to remain cautious in their movements, noting that the security situation in Khartoum is not yet stable. He urged all Ugandans in Sudan to register with the Embassy and pledged that the Embassy will continue to work closely with them for the good image and development of the country.
The meeting was attended by the First Secretary, Mr. Joseph Barigye, the Defence Advisor, Brig. Gen. Tingira Irumba Omero, Financial Attache, Mr. Adrian Felix Wandega, and leaders of the Ugandan Community in Khartoum.
