Ronald Atuhumwize, born February 5, 1991, in Isingiro, Mbarara, didn’t inherit a business empire. He built one — one pair of shoes at a time. Today, he is the founder and face of Salongo House of Shoes, a trusted footwear brand operating from the bustling Mukwano Arcade in downtown Kampala.

But his journey started far from the arcade’s steady foot traffic.
From the Streets to Stability
After relocating to Kampala as a young boy, Ronald was thrust into the city’s unforgiving informal economy. His earliest hustles took place at:
Qualicel Bus Terminal
Nabugabo Street
These were not glamorous starts. They were survival grounds. Yet, they taught him lessons no business school could: how to read customers, stretch a shilling, and earn trust without a receipt.
His first major pivot came when he moved to the Mukwano trading area, selling shoes and Uganda Cranes jerseys. Unlike many vendors who prioritized quick sales, Ronald focused on authenticity and fair pricing — a rare combo that earned him a growing base of loyal customers.
That trust became the bedrock of Salongo House of Shoes.
The TikTok Takeoff
For years, Ronald relied solely on word-of-mouth. But the real game-changer came when he embraced TikTok.
Through raw, relatable videos — showcasing new arrivals, comparing shoe quality, and even sharing daily struggles of a vendor — he struck a chord with Ugandan youth and beyond. His handle @salongohouseofshoes_1 began attracting thousands of views, and more importantly, real customers walking into his shop.
“TikTok didn’t just make me famous — it made my business visible to people who would never have passed through Mukwano Arcade.” — Ronald Atuhumwize
His digital fame, however, didn’t change his approach. The same transparency and consistency that worked on the street now worked on screen. And the result? A small vendor became a recognizable, trusted brand.
