RE: DELIBERATE MISREPRESENTATION OF HON. ANITA AMONG’S REMARKS BY DAILY MONITOR
The NRM fraternity has noted with concern the misleading and sensational headline published by the Daily Monitor alleging that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, referred to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as “God.”
We categorically reject this distortion as a blatant misrepresentation of her remarks and a deliberate attempt to provoke public misunderstanding and mischaracterize her deep appreciation of the President’s leadership.
In her address, the Speaker expressed profound gratitude and admiration for President Museveni’s historical contribution to peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation in Uganda. This is a sentiment shared by millions of Ugandans who have directly benefited from the NRM government’s revolutionary progress. At no point did she equate the Head of State to the divine or make any theological declaration.

As a leader grounded in constitutionalism, Hon. Anita Among respects the distinction between spiritual belief and political leadership. Her words, taken in context, were clearly figurative and meant to highlight the President’s unparalleled legacy and service to the nation.
We caution media houses against irresponsible journalism that fuels misinformation and undermines public trust. While we respect freedom of the press, it must be exercised with integrity and factual accuracy. Uganda’s political discourse must remain rooted in truth, civility, and national interest.
We urge the Daily Monitor to issue a correction and refrain from sensationalism that sows discord and distracts from the real issues affecting our people.
For God and My Country.
