RDC Kirigwa urges Students on discipline as he flags beneficiaries of Mengo Industrial Hub for Skilling programs

Students have been urged to maintain discipline and hard work if they are to have a good future.

 The call was made by the Entebbe Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Hakim Kirigwa while flagging off students to Mengo Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Bugerere-Nazigo, Kayunga District.

According to Kirigwa, all government projects, including the Presidential industrial hubs, are intended to assist all Ugandans participate in the money economy, which is part of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) transformational mission especially to the young people.

“With the abilities you will learn, you may not need to start seeking work. Use the talents effectively to build your own businesses and earn money. After gaining skills, you can use the monies provided by the various government programs to create something for yourselves,” Kirigwa said.

According to Kirigwa, by setting up the initiative, President Museveni intended to among others, create job creators and reduce unemployment, offer jobs to the youths (instructors at the hubs), reduce criminality among the youths, and above all improve household incomes.

Mengo Zonal Industrial hub in Kayunga attracts youths from 11 districts which include among others; Butambala, Kayunga, Mukono, Wakiso, Buikwe, Nakasongola, Gomba, Mpigi and Luwero.

Several dignitaries attended the occasion, including security officials, Members of Parliament, technical leaders among others.

Hon. Sherry has been hailed for nominating 16 students, of which 9 from Entebbe were selected by State House. The students will depart for Kayunga on Thursday, led by Hon. Sherry, to begin their studies

President Yoweri Museveni established several industrial hubs aimed at skilling the youth and providing them with opportunities to gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills. These hubs are designed to provide technical and vocational training to young people, equipping them with the necessary skills for the job market. The Industrial Hubs skilling program has been embraced by many and more youth have been encouraged to take part in it. It is free of charge, students don’t pay fees, and four meals are provided within a day because the Government of Uganda has catered for the welfare. The duration of the courses is five months.

The skilling hubs offer welding, shoe making, tailoring, hairdressing, block making, stone cutting, baking, plumbing electronics, and farm management. etc. They are skilling the youth hands-on practices that they can use in their respective areas & earn something for themselves. Zonal Industrial Hubs are one of the best ways of bringing the youth into the money economy, hence socio-economic transformation of regions and the whole nation.

So far, 20 Regional Industrial Hubs are operational in Kayunga, Mubende, Masaka, Ankole, Kabale, Kasese, Ntoroko, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Zombo, Adjumani, Gulu, soroti, Lira, Napak, Kwen, Mbale, Kibuku, Jinja and Tooro.
