Pomp & Glamour as 255 Graduate at Vienna College Namugongo

Vienna College Namugongo, on Friday June 14, 2024 made yet another milestone in the history and shaping of the country’s education by holding their inaugural graduation.

It was all pomp and glamour as a total of 255 students from both Year 11 and Year 13 graduated at a flashy function officiated by Prof. Mondo Kagonyera , a former Minister and Chancellor of Makerere University.

114 graduands were part of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), which is equivalent to Uganda’s O’Level. The other 141 from Year 13 graduated at the advanced subsidiary, which is an equivalent of A‘level.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Kagonyera urged the government to re-introduce a fully owned government commercial Bank to serve the interests of the citizens.

Kagonyera says members of parliament should fast track the proposal to revive Uganda commercial Bank and also ensure good liquidity in Uganda Development Bank so that as more young people graduate, the National Bank can help nationals take full charge of the economy as it would develop policies with National interests.

Mr Mohammed Kakiika, the school principal, told the departing cohort that it was their hard work, steady commitment, which enabled them to reach this milestone. The learning takes two years to complete when a student is studying full time but this can also be studied as a part time, according to school administrators.

Mr Robert Kabonero, the chairperson of the board of governors, said since the inception of the college in 2000, it has been blessed with academic excellence.

He said that over the years, Vienna College has emerged as one of the largest Cambridge centers in terms of enrollment and outstanding performance in the region.

Vienna College Namugongo, is a private co-education institution, which opened its doors to international students early in January 2000. It rapidly established itself as a haven for senior students from Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Europe, the United States and of course, its home setting – Uganda. It is a home to hundreds of students, most of whom reside on the extensive campus. The focus for their academic education is preparation and participation in the IGCSE and GCE “A-level” Courses. Vienna College is a Cambridge International (CIE) Centre UG010.
