Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, other mourners gathered today at Kibuli mosque for funeral prayers for the late Alhajji Nsereko Abdul, Father of Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko.
Al-Hajji Abdul Nsereko, a seasoned broadcaster and politician, who worked at Radio Uganda and later at Uganda Broadcasting Services (UBC) in various roles, including director, succumbed to cardiac arrest around 1:00 am on Wednesday.
During the funeral prayers at Kibuli which were attended by Prince Dr. Kasim Nakibinge Kakungulu a traditional and spiritual leader among other top Islamic religious leaders, Lukwago lauded Alhajji Abdul, a respected community member who left an enduring impact through dedicated service to both his family and the people of Uganda adding that his demise is not only a profound loss to his loved ones but also to the entire nation.
Several dignitaries attended the prayers for the deceased at Kibuli Mosque and later at 2:00 pm the body was taken to Bulika, Nama sub-county, Mukono district for burial.
The late was born and raised around Kampala from where he also attained education at Muslim schools until 1970 when he joined Radio Uganda where he worked as an announcer before he started anchoring news on UTV.
The deceased was the first speaker of KCCA council but was later appointed an RDC before he started emceeing state functions until his retirement.
The late Alhajji Abdul Nsereko died at 76yrs of age, leaving behind no widow as he resolved not to marry again after his wife’s death in the 2000s
