One of the contenders in the National Female Youth MP race, Mercy Kanyesigye, has called on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership to expedite the organization of fresh youth elections following their suspension this week.

President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the NRM national chairman, on Wednesday halted the national youth elections after chaos marred the process during the party’s national delegates conference. He said the polls would be held “at an opportune time.”
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Kanyesigye stressed that delaying the elections would only prolong uncertainty among the party’s youth voters.
