JINJA-Opposition leaders have been urged to support government development programmes so that their supporters can boost their financial standing, other than castigating them which misleads the public.

The remark was made when the Christian Mission Church lead Pastor Samuel has asked Uganda’s opposition politicians to cooperate with the Government to improve the wellbeing of the people, adding that the country needs a unity government which would spur development and further the interests of many Ugandans.

Pastor Lubega, while delivering his Easter Message to Ugandans, said a broad-base government, which embraces the views of different political parties or groups and possibly includes political representatives who articulate these views, and keeps the interests of voters at the front rather than political parties.

‘’Unity governments or grand coalitions have been formed around the world for various purposes. The National Unity government in South Africa was formed during the post-apartheid era to reset the nation while the National Unity government in Kenya was formed in the aftermath of its 2007 political crisis’’, Lubega said.

‘’It is now up to political parties to put aside their personal agendas and differences in order to put the country first, so that as a nation we can achieve cooperation that embraces the interests of the people’’, Lubega added.

Lubega asked Opposition leaders to use their platforms to help households fight poverty by embracing government projects. He named such projects as Parish Development Model [PDM], Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation, Youth Livelihood Programme [YLP], and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program [UWEP].

‘’Opposition leaders should help change the mindset of their supporters so that they switch to embracing government programs, other than criticizing them yet they are funded by the taxe payers money’’, he noted.
