About the 30-Year Investor campaign

Awareness of regulated capital markets products, such as the Central Securities Depository (CSD) account and unit trusts, remains shallow. To close this gap, the CMA, in partnership with UIBFS has launched the 30-Year Investor campaign. The UIBFS app give first-time investors a mobile-first way to start without visiting an office.

Under the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV, 2025/26 to 2029/30), the Government of Uganda has set out the Tenfold Growth Strategy. It aims to grow the economy from about USD 50 billion to USD 500 billion by 2040.

“Reaching that target depends heavily on mobilising domestic savings and channeling them into productive investment. A population that saves but does not invest cannot supply the capital this agenda requires. This is where capital markets come in,” Josephine Okui Ossiya, CEO, Capital Markets Authority, said.

The campaign presents investing as a journey rather than a one-off transaction. The decisions a saver makes today compound over the next 30 years. That echoes CMA’s own 30-year history and the long-term outlook that capital markets investment requires. The Campaign aims to inspire more Ugandans to embrace long-term investing and to contribute to a stronger financial future for the country.

“We know that in Uganda we already have a culture of saving, but we now want to turn those people who are saving into investors. The objective of this campaign is to reach every Ugandan, including boda boda riders, teachers, farmers and many more,” Dickson Ssembuya, Director of Research and Market Development at CMA, explained.

The Campaign was launched at the thirtieth (30) anniversary Awards Dinner on 8thOctober, 2026, by the Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.

He was joined by the Minister of State for General Duties, Hon. Cissy Mulondo, and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba.

CMA and UIBFS look forward to the public’s participation as they work together to bring investment education closer to Ugandans and encourage more people to save and invest.

“Together with our licensed market intermediaries present today, you will be able to buy shares on the stock exchange, bonds and open up unit trusts,” said Lyn Tukei, Communications and Public Relations Manager at CMA.

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) is Uganda’s statutory regulator of the capital markets. The Authority is mandated to regulate and promote the development of an orderly, fair and efficient capital market while protecting investors and promoting confidence in Uganda’s capital markets.

In carrying out its mandate, CMA licenses and supervises capital markets intermediaries, oversees securities offerings and other regulated capital markets activities, promotes investor education and market development, and cooperates with regulatory authorities in other jurisdictions in relation to cross-border capital markets activities.
