ParliamentaryMalariaWalk2026 : Tembo Steels Commits to Supporting Initiatives that Create Healthier, Stronger Communities  

On July 26, 2026,Tembo Steels Ltd proudly participated in the 4th Parliamentary Malaria Walk, a national initiative dedicated to the fight against malaria with the goal of eliminating the disease by 2030.

The General Manager Mr Manish Kalla, led Tembo steels team in this year’s walk, held under the theme “Walk the Talk: End Malaria in Schools Now,” focused on protecting learners and highlighted the devastating impact of malaria on school attendance, academic performance, and overall child wellbeing.

Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, Speaker of Parliament, was represented by the Deputy, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, who led the walk as the chief walker and was accompanied by a number of Ministers, including the current Government Chief Whip and former Minister for Health, Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng.

Tembo officials added that; ‘’Malaria remains one of Uganda’s greatest public health challenges, affecting more than 12 million people and claiming an estimated 13,000–16,000 lives every year. This is why every effort to raise awareness and drive action matters. At Tembo Steels, we are proudly Ugandan and remain committed to supporting initiatives that create healthier, stronger communities. Together, every step we take brings us closer to a malaria-free Uganda’’.

In his address, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa issued a powerful call to action: he urged for the installation of minimum testing laboratories in school sick bays and dispensaries as a first-line check for malaria. He emphasized that these basic laboratories would help detect malaria early and prevent deaths, particularly in light of recent tragic incidents in schools. He reaffirmed Parliament’s unwavering commitment to the fight against malaria through continued budgetary support and advocacy.

The walk commenced at the Parliament of Uganda and proceeded through the streets of Kampala, drawing participants from government ministries, schools, universities, the private sector, civil society, and thousands of Ugandans united in the fight against malaria.
