The Uganda National Students Association (UNSA), through its Serere Secretariat, successfully conducted the 2026 Secondary School Debate, Public Speech and Poetry Tournament at Serere SS.
The competition with 3 categories for; Debating, Poetry, and Public Speaking attracted several secondary schools, each eligible to present up to three teams.
Halcyon High School Serere presented students in the above 3 categories.
Halcyon High School Serere emerged winners in 2 categories winning Gold and bagging 4 gold medals.They won in Debating and Poetry and they won the Best Patron too.
The best Debaters were Elietu David Adonai, Otukwatse Brilliant, Esadu Isaac. The best Poeter was Acero Grace Maeve and the Best Patron was Onyonga Noel.
Officials appreciated the schools that took part in the championship, noting that such activities help learners engage in discussions about issues affecting their communities.
Halcyon High School Serere administrators congratulated the students for consistently raising the school’s flag high. The school pledged full support to ensure students continue benefiting from such activities, noting that the such activities have made the school proud adding that debate, public speaking, and poetry activities have greatly improved students’ communication and leadership skills.
The Uganda National Debate, Poetry, and Public Speech Championship, an initiative of the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA), has emerged as a beacon of excellence in nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication among students. Since its inception in 2022, this championship has experienced unprecedented growth, attracting over 40,000,000 students and teachers annually from across the country.

By providing a platform for young minds to engage, express, and develop their skills, we are shaping the future leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers of our nation.
