Leaders and residents of Lugazi Municipality are celebrating the development of the new Lugazi Industrial Park, a project poised to significantly boost the local economy and create thousands of jobs.

The industrial park, located on a sprawling 100-acre site in Bulyanteete Village, Kawolo Division, is expected to transform the region into a major hub for industrial development, attracting both local and foreign investments.

Once completed, the park is anticipated to provide employment for over 10,000 people from Buikwe and surrounding districts. Construction is already underway, with graders clearing the land for future development.

Julius Lutaaya Kato, the project coordinator, said the next phase will involve the construction of factories, which will play a crucial role in providing much-needed jobs for the local population.

Environmental sustainability is a key focus for the developers. Jeremiah Kasirivu, the park’s project manager, emphasized the importance of protecting the surrounding environment, especially the wetlands.

“We are keen on ensuring that our activities do not harm the wetlands,” Kasirivu explained. “Additionally, we are incorporating solar energy into the park’s operations to promote green energy solutions.”

Lugazi Municipality Mayor John Bosco Onzima Asea expressed strong support for the project, highlighting the positive impact it will have on the local economy.

“We fully support this development and are committed to improving the infrastructure in the area to accommodate the park’s growth,” Asea said. “The municipality stands to benefit from increased tax revenues, which will help improve local services.”

Mayor Asea also urged investors to prioritize the health and safety of workers employed at the park, ensuring their well-being throughout the development process.

The initiative has also received strong backing from the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU). Francis Kisirinya, from PSFU, highlighted the park’s potential to support small-scale industries.

“The park will feature a common-user system, where local entrepreneurs can bring in raw materials, create their products, and pay for the time they use,” Kisirinya explained. “This will provide a significant boost to small businesses and further stimulate economic growth in the region.”

The Lugazi Industrial Park is set to be a game-changer for both the local community and the wider region, offering numerous opportunities for job creation, industrial growth, and economic development.
