Ex-Minister Tumwesigye petitions Museveni over  MP Naome Kibaju

Dr Elioda Tumwesigye has written to President Yoweri Museveni, urging him to intervene and persuade Sheema North MP, Hon Naome Kibaaju to step down in the forthcoming 2026 elections.

A leaked letter, reportedly from Dr Elioda’s camp, indicates that the former minister is seeking an audience with the president to press his case. The letter was allegedly delivered to State House by Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, a close ally of Dr. Elioda.

Dr. Elioda, who previously contested against Hon. Dicksons Kateshumbwa, former Commissioner for Customs at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and ex-Chairman of the World Customs Organization Council, suffered a humiliating defeat.

Following this loss, he has now shifted to Sheema North, aiming to unseat Hon. Kibaaju, who recently lost her husband, Obadia Ntebekaine.

Sources suggest that Dr. Elioda perceives Hon. Kibaju as politically weakened by her bereavement, prompting him to escalate his efforts even to the extent of petitioning

In Sheema, it is reported that the ex-minister has teamed up with Eng. Kamugisha, Director of Presidential Skilling Hubs, and Hon. Jacklet Rwabukurukuru to form an alliance against the sitting MPs in the area, who are known for their strong working relationship.

In a bid to attract President Museveni’s attention during his Parish Development Model (PDM) tour of Ankole, the group hastily established an NRM Nyekundire faction and is reportedly planning a demonstration against Hon. Kibaju.

Meanwhile, tensions flared last Saturday at a function in Mushanga Parish, where Catholic religious leaders strongly condemned Eng. Kamugisha for making what they described as divisive and sectarian remarks. The clergy warned against reviving the toxic political atmosphere that previously plagued Sheema.

Efforts to reach MP Naome Kibaju for comment were unsuccessful, while Hon. Kateshumbwa was also unavailable by press time, as he is reportedly in Brussels, Belgium on
