Vienna College Namugongo Shines again as Cambridge results are released

The results of Cambridge International Examinations which were sat by students in a number of schools including Vienna College Namugongo have been released, seeing the former maintaining the lead again.

Officials at Vienna College hailed Government for adopting the Cambridge assessment and grading of students in the improved National school’s curriculum which now meets the international standard of grading and assessment of students.

The new approach will be based on AAs and AA starts similar to the Cambridge assessments, instead of Divisions one two etc. that were being used.

Mohamed Kakiika, the principal Vienna College Namugongo made the remarks as Uganda received Cambridge examination results where Ugandan students have excelled both in o level and A levels especially in sciences.

Girls have a high performance, maintaining a 65 % lead against boys mainly in sciences and social sciences which has been attributed to the natural multi-tasking abilities that females have coupled with the determination to achieve their aspirations. Out of the top 50 positions, girls scooped 36 but the boys performed equally well.

Regarding IGCSEs 114 candidates 23 students scored distinctions and 77 of what is equivalent to a Ugandan 1st grade giving a reasonable score for Uganda of about 85 % IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds.

Kakiika says adapting to the Cambridge assessment is a positive step towards improving Uganda’s education.

Ugandan schools offering the Cambridge curriculum include Vienna college Namugongo which has the highest number of candidates Kabojja,Agakhan, International schools of Uganda, Kampala international school, Galaxy, Rainbow, Acons, Heritage, and Taibah schools.

Over the years, Vienna College has emerged as one of the largest Cambridge centers in terms of enrollment and outstanding performance in the region.

Vienna College Namugongo, is a private co-education institution, which opened its doors to international students early in January 2000. It rapidly established itself as a haven for senior students from Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Europe, the United States and of course, its home setting – Uganda. It is a home to hundreds of students, most of whom reside on the extensive campus. The focus for their academic education is preparation and participation in the IGCSE and GCE “A-level” Courses. Vienna College is a Cambridge International (CIE) Centre UG010.
