Kira in Fresh Political Storm as NUP Vows to Crash NRM’s Kananura in Court for Disputing Musisi’s Win

Kananura petitioned the High Court at Wakiso against NUP’s George Musisi, the newly elected MP for Kira Municipality citing several malpractices including  ballot stuffing and vote bribery.

Speaking during the thanks giving ceremony in honour of George Musisi’s victory at St Joseph’s church of Uganda in Bulindo, on June 13th 2026, Eddy Yawe, the elder brother NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi revealed that even if the court nullifies Musisi’s Victory, they will mobilise and walk in protest to demand his victory.

On his part , former NUP secretary for mobilisation, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu also elder brother of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi vowed to fight for the victory of their local government leaders adding that they will do anything to ensure that NRM’s Kananura does win the legal battle against Musisi.

The event was attended by several NUP leaders led by the Nakawa West Member of Parliament Leader of the Opposition (LOP) Hon Joel Besekezi Ssenyonyi,  mobilisers including MPs from various regions.

Kananura  dragged Musisi to the High Court in Wakiso, challenging the outcome of the January 15, 2026 election.

Kananura accuses Musisi and the Electoral Commission of presiding over an election that he claims was not free and fair. He is pointing to alleged irregularities including ballot stuffing and voter bribery, and wants the court to either nullify the results or order a fresh poll or recount.

Musisi, who contested on the NUP ticket winning long-serving incumbent Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who stepped aside after 15 years in Parliament.

Kananura, a known NRM mobilizer, appears determined to test the results despite Musisi’s clear margin at the polls, setting up yet another legal showdown in Uganda’s increasingly contested post-election season.

Kananura is among the pioneers of Team Chairman MK Project which birthed the Patriotic League of Uganda( PLU). He traversed Kira municipality during campaigns and many believed the race was between him and Ssemuju. Kananura’s source of wealth is not clear, and he is always spotted with prominent politicians and businessmen around town.

With several election petitions already filed across the country ahead of the May 2026 swearing-in, the courts are once again becoming the new battleground for political offices.
