For Uganda, the spotlight moment came when Ambassador Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu ascended the stage to receive one of the institution’s most distinguished recognitions — an award honouring alumni whose lives and work have made clear, measurable, and lasting contributions to society.
According to the official statement, the award was conferred in recognition of his outstanding achievements in community service, volunteer work, humanitarian initiatives, academic excellence, da’wah contributions, and exemplary representation of the university and its alumni around the world.
This recognition places Uganda among only five countries honoured this year from the elite global list, alongside France, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Suriname.
The achievement becomes even more significant considering that Ambassador Ssemuddu emerged from a global alumni network of more than 150,000 graduates living and serving in over 180 countries and territories worldwide.
The second proud achievement for Uganda came through the successful graduation of 25 Ugandan students from the Islamic University of Madinah at the same 62nd Graduation Ceremony for the academic year 2025/2026.
According to the Uganda Students’ Association in the Islamic University of Madinah, the graduates completed studies in important fields including Sharia, Quran, Aqeeda & Daawa, Arabic Language, and Hadith.
This milestone highlights Uganda’s growing investment in education and scholarship, with graduates expected to return and contribute to communities through teaching, leadership, research, guidance, and national development.
Many observers described the graduation of the 25 Ugandans as a sign of a bright future for the country, as young scholars continue to gain international education and experience.
Observers have described the honour as a proud national milestone for Uganda, reflecting the country’s growing standing in scholarship, diplomacy, humanitarian service, and international leadership.
The moment also highlights the increasing visibility of Ugandans who continue to excel on the global stage through service, professionalism, and community impact.
As Ambassador Ssemuddu received the trophy before an applauding audience, Uganda’s name was once again lifted high before an international gathering in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The official programme began with the procession of distinguished alumni honourees, followed by a documentary presentation highlighting the university and its graduates. Guests later listened to the official address by the President of the University, followed by remarks on behalf of the alumni community.
