In recognition of the urgency and gravity of his condition, TMR International Hospital made the decision to offer Jayden full medical care at no cost to his family’’, reads a statement from TMR.

The Hospital’s multidisciplinary team has since provided intensive Care treatment and specialized support that aided his recovery, as he prepares for a bone marrow transplant which is an essential procedure for his long-term survival.

Dr. Erasmus Okello, An Intensive Care Physician and the Head of Critical Care Services at the hospital, explained Jayden’s initial state: “When he arrived, he was in severe pain, struggling to breathe, and his oxygen saturation was critically low at 70%. A healthy adult requires levels above 95%. Our team worked swiftly to stabilize him and bring him out of the emergency crisis.”

“Jayden experienced an Acute Vaso-Occlusive Crisis and Acute Chest Syndrome. He has greatly improved under our care. However, he no longer responds to hydroxyurea, a commonly used drug for sickle cell management. For some patients, the medication becomes ineffective or causes serious side effects such as bone marrow suppression. For Jayden, a bone marrow transplant is now the best chance to significantly improve his quality of life.”

Dr. Daniel M. Talemwa, the Executive Director of TMR International Hospital, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to Jayden’s cause.

“We were deeply touched by Jayden’s story and committed to covering all costs related to managing this acute crisis. At TMR, compassion and excellence guide our mission. No one should be denied lifesaving care because of circumstances beyond their control. We will continue supporting Jayden as he prepares for a bone marrow transplant, including conducting all necessary tests for him and the potential donor to maximize the chances of a successful outcome.” Dr. Daniel also extended heartfelt appreciation to the public.

“We thank his friends, especially Zubeda, for bringing his case to our attention, and we are deeply grateful to the Ugandans who have shown overwhelming love and financial support. This outpouring of compassion has contributed greatly to his remarkable recovery. The Cost of the bone Marrow Transplant ranges from USD 40,000 to USD 150,000. We encourage continued support as the fundraising effort aims for USD 100,000 to cover the cost of both the transplant and the vital post-transplant care. The Care after Transplant is so crucial to reduce the chances of complications as well as Rejection by Jayden’s body and ultimately, transplant failure”.

Jayden expressed profound gratitude for the care he received: “I am so grateful to Dr. Daniel and the entire TMR team for treating me for free. I cannot believe I am getting this level of care in such a world-class facility. I have improved so much, and I thank the public for the love they have shown me.”
