The Minister of Foreign Affairs was represented by Ambassador Charles Ssentongo,  Chief of Protocol, who delivered the Ministry’s statement. He thanked the World Food Programme for its continued role in facilitating humanitarian assistance in Uganda and across the region, and applauded UN agencies for their unwavering support to vulnerable communities.

Ambassador Ssentongo underscored that the establishment of the Global Fleet Hub presents new employment and skills-development opportunities for Ugandans, while enhancing Uganda’s role as a key logistics and Humanitarian Coordination Centre for Africa.

The ceremony was followed by the formal signing of the Amendment to the MoU, authorising the deployment of special UN/WFP fleet plates that allow vehicles to operate seamlessly across borders without the delays of country-by-country re-registration. This advancement is expected to greatly shorten emergency response times across the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening multilateral humanitarian action and deepening collaboration with partners to enhance regional stability and resilience.
