The Alumni of Jinja College (JICO) have paid a courtesy visit to the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV at his Igenge Royal Palace in Jinja district.
The delegation, which included Bernard Mbayo the Speaker and aspiring MP for Jinja South who doubles as the treasurer PTA and board member, JICOBA president Dr. Mas Yunus Masaba, Jinja College’s Board of Governors chairperson Fr. Godfrey Etolu and Jinja College’s Head teacher Dhikusooka Michael among others were welcomed by Busoga Kingdom’s permanent secretary Godfrey Samanya Ssajjabbi.
During the meeting, Dr. Masaba handed over a Lifetime Achievement Award to the Kyabazinga in recognition and appreciation of his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to championing education and youth empowerment in Busoga and beyond.
JICO head teacher Dhikusooka requested the King to allow JICO Alumni take on the boy-ship mentorship initiative.
He said they want to develop a concept to support the boy child in learning how to live in Busoga, teach them the Busoga Cultural norms and values and how to survive in the communities.
He adds that they will also join in the Kyabazinga’s campaign of “Abasadha n’empango” to ensure that the men take up their mantle as it used to be in educating and fostering culture in Busoga.
He revealed that JICO offered 5 scholarships to Busoga Kingdom adding that they are going to add one to make it a total of six scholarships.
Dhikusooka extended an invitation to the King to be guest of honour at a JICOBA dinner yet to be announced next year.
JICOBA President, Dr. Masaba, said that among the key highlights in the meeting were that JICO will be offering mentorship programs within the Kingdom and mentor the boy child.
Dr. Masaba extended appreciation to the Kyabazinga for being at the helm of championing education in Busoga and being extemporaneous in the world.
In his remarks, Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV, started by thanking the Alumni of JICO for the great work they have done to ensure that the school maintains and sustains academic progress in Busoga sub region and country at large.
“As OBB we continue to thank you for educating the different students especially the boy child—for a number of years you have been around, Jinja College has been one of the best performing schools and one of the schools that has educated young men who have become top leaders and responsible people in society,” Kyabazinga said.
He added that despite studying from Busoga College Mwiri, as a Kyabazinga he is a parent to everyone and they do not have to worry that he is not an old boy.
The Kyabazinga implored JICOBA Alumni to come up with a concept about the boy’s camp (Ekigangu) so that it is turned into a project to empower the boy child starting at Jinja College.
