Scores flocked Lugogo indoor for the Koona Dance workout, organized by Nakato Alice Events Consultancy to raise funds for providing sanitary pads to girls in Jinja, Busoga sub-region.

Themed ‘Dance with a purpose’, the dance work out divided in two sessions; 09am -12:00OM and 03:00pm -06:00, was sponsored by C Care ,Fitness Junction, Dwona Initiative, Two Man Tribe ,Nella ,Fitness Centre , sting energy drink among others.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the first session, Alice Nakato, the Director and Lead Consultant at Nakato Alice Events Consultancy said many adolescent girls, especially drop out of school due to difficulties in managing menstrual hygiene which prompted them to organise this occasion as a fundraising event to raise funds for an NGO in Jinja to support girls with menstrual sanitary pads.
‘’Menstruation should never be a barrier to education. Yet, for many girls, the lack of access to sanitary products leads to absenteeism and, in some cases, dropping out of school altogether. By addressing this challenge, we are breaking down barriers and fostering a future where no girl has to miss school due to her period’’, said Nakato.

She added that this initiative goes beyond just providing funds for materials; it is about creating awareness, fostering open conversations, and advocating for long-term solutions to menstrual health and hygiene challenges the restaurant they partnered with an NGO in Jinja.

Felix Okumu, the CEO of Koona Dance, urged compassionate individuals to join them in providing reusable pads to girls in Busoga adding that any contribution can make a huge impact in their lives.
Felix launched out into dance workouts to help people enjoy exercising so they can feel and live better. Now it is not only dancing for fitness but he is bringing hope to people who might have never made it to a workout session and he is changing lives.

Experts who participated in this event explained that regular physical activity provides significant physical and mental health benefits, contributes to prevention and management of noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes and reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, enhances brain health, and can improve overall well-being.
‘’In children and adolescents, physical activity promotes bone health, encourages healthy growth and development of muscle, and improves motor and cognitive development’’, said one of the nurses who attended the event.
