Busoga Consortium, China Agricultural University Partner to Promote the Village Agricultural Model

Officials from China Agricultural University, a public university in Beijing affiliated with the Ministry of Education of China have expressed the enduring and vibrant partnership between the institution and The Busoga Consortium for Development, showcasing their joint commitment to pilot the Village Agricultural Model (VAM) as a vehicle for the holistic transformation of Busoga to Upper middle-income status.

A delegation from the China Agricultural University led by the Deputy Dean Prof Tang Lixia made a courtesy call to the 1DPM Minister for East African Community Affairs Rt. Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga (MP).

The Chinese delegation comprised Dr. Li Lanlan a Global Agricultural Expert and Mr. Zhang, Team Leader of China Uganda South to South Cooperation Project Phase III, while the Uganda delegation consisted of 1DPM Minister for EAC Affairs Uganda Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga, 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Rukia Isanga Nakadama, The Minister for Presidency, Hon Babirye Milly Babalanda, Director General Busoga Consortium for Development, Mr. Mula Anthony, and other technical officers.

According to officials, the Chinese support to BCD aimed at mutual development and collaboration across an array of sectors, drives the socio-economic transformation of the region and they anticipate Busoga sub-region could be on the verge of becoming the 1st sub-region of Uganda to make the best of the PDM program through the deployment of the Village Agricultural Model (VAM) strategy to stir guided mass community transformation.

‘’The Chinese delegation has been in the country to reaffirm its work with the Busoga Consortium for Development to pilot the Village Agricultural Model (VAM) as a vehicle for the holistic transformation of Busoga to Upper middle-income status’’, said an official from BCD.

Mr. Mula Anthony, Director General of Busoga Consortium extended heartfelt delight at the resounding success of this pivotal collaboration embracing a future of shared achievements and impactful initiatives.

China Agricultural University is ranked 332 in Best Global Universities. Schools are ranked according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.

The China Agricultural University is regarded as one of the world’s top agricultural research institutions. As of 2021, China Agricultural University is ranked the best university in the world in “Agricultural Sciences” by the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities.

Over the past 60 years, Uganda and China have enjoyed developments and revitalization amid complex global challenges. For instance, trade between the two nations totalled amplified and Chinese companies have contributed significantly to the building of infrastructure in Uganda.

For years Chinese investors have set up several industrial parks in efforts to create employment for the youths for instance China-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park has created more than 2,000 jobs for the local communities.

China, in response to the priority project lists proposed by the Ugandan government, has done whatever she can to support Uganda in the fields of agriculture, education, medical care, health and social infrastructure with the intention to enhance the well-being of the Ugandan people.
