Kampala Lord Mayor Lukwago Hosts Hundreds of Muslim Faithfuls for Iftar Dinner at City Hall
Addressing the faithfuls, the Lord Mayor said that this Holy Month should be a time of reflection on issues our society is grappling with including provision of social services.
The Lord Mayor called for increased funding for Public schools and protection of public assets; Schools, Mosques amongst others against land grabbers.
His Eminence the Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi thanked the Lord Mayor for hosting the annual dinner and raised concern on the effects of climate change that has resulted into unprecedented heat currently being experienced.
He called on government to consider intervention in reducing the cost of electricity and gas to enable Ugandans move away from use of biomass for cooking.
The Keynote speaker at the dinner, Al Hajji Dr. Kalisa, the Managing Director, Salam. TV Uganda, stated that fasting is not only important as a pillar of Islam but has very many other benefits to the faithfuls including fostering Healthy living, Self discipline and discovery.
Present at the annual dinner were Members of Parliament, City Executive Secretaries, Division Mayors, Councilors, Religious Leaders amongst others.
