Entebbe RDC Kirigwa Hails UPPC for Improved Corporate Governance, Customer Excellence, Efficient Business Processes

The Entebbe Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Hakim Kirigwa has commended the leadership and staff of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC), a government body mandated to print and publish legal documents for the general public, for Focusing on Enhancing Value through Improved Corporate Governance, Customer Excellence, and Efficient Business Processes.

Kirigwa made the remarks during a meeting with the leadership and other stakeholders of UPPC on Friday at the corporation’s offices in Entebbe, where he hailed the Managing Director Prof. Sudi Nangoli for ICT Innovations in printing and publishing to compete on a global scale.

Kirigwa hailed UPPC for devotedly working towards the attainment of its strategic objectives which includes; strengthening institutional capacity of UPPC to deliver on its mandate, Increasing in quality, quantity and diversity of UPPC to deliver on its mandate, Strengthening the Corporations infrastructural set up for production and delivery, building and maintaining market leadership in the country and maximize sales collection , Establishing and strengthening Networking and partnership building with strategic stakeholders ; and also Strengthening the corporation’s financial profitability.

‘’ I want to thank the leadership of UPPC and Prof.Nangoli for being strategic which is driving the corporation’s successes. UPPC has embraced technology to digitize 80% of its product offerings by 2026, in alignment with the national digitization roadmap. Also a partnership with sustainability-focused clients is contributing to both environmental conservation and financial sustainability’’, said Kirigwa.

The Corporation’s functions include printing and publishing all Government legislation and documents; Acting as an in-service school to train its own and other organizations’ apprentice printers; Acting as the chief adviser to the Government on all printing and publishing matters; Providing printing services to parastatal, private organizations and individuals; Providing stationery, such as envelopes, desk calendars, letterheads, visiting cards, file folders or other stationery for office use;  Printing both textbooks and exercise books or any other books for general reading or use; Undertaking security printing works as may be determined by the Minister in consultation with the board and carrying out any other activity that may be carried out by a printing and publishing institution.

It should be remembered that President Yoweri Museveni directed all government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to give all printing projects to Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC).

In a 28th September, 2021 letter addressed to the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, President Museveni directed Nabbanja to communicate to government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure that all their printing works are given UPPC.

This directive was geared towards empowering UPPC , that would in turn increase on the income of the corporation hence creating more Jobs especially for young people , revenue for government and social- economic transformation of the country.

One of the recent achievements of UPPC is the launch of the E-Gazette which aligns with corporation’s five-year strategic plan, where the Chief Government Printer aims to digitize 80 percent of its product offerings by 2026.

Prof. Nangoli, said during the launch that the digital edition will transform the way the public can access crucial legal information and that the digital version not only offers affordability but also eliminates the challenges associated with physical papers. Nangoli emphasized the commitment to harnessing technology for the convenience of stakeholders while contributing to environmental protection and operational efficiency in an increasingly digital landscape.
