Ignore Imposters: Lukwago Urges FDC Members to Focus on Unity, Liberation of Uganda
The interim president of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction, also the Lord Mayor of Kampala City, Mr Erias Lukwago has dismissed rumors about the planned sale of the party to the National Unity Platform (NUP).
He made the remarks on Thursday afternoon while addressing journalists at Katonga road offices in Kampala.
Lukwago said the propaganda is aimed at dividing both parties, urging FDC members and Ugandans to disregard this narrative.
‘’I want to assure you as long as I’m still the acting president of FDC, today, the other day, your party will remain solid. Don’t buy into that crap that propaganda which is intended to create a rage between FDC, NUP and other forces of change,’’ he noted.
He clarified that FDC remains committed to a principled collaboration to have a United Front in the road to power transition, explaining that this doesn’t mean that the party has to be sold to achieve it.
Lukwago implored party members to consider the opposition United Front for the good cause and avoid being misled especially around this time when the country prepares for the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Lukwago, stated that 2023 was a year of betrayal to the mission, vision and all Ugandans who hold the institution of FDC dear, adding that amidst the tide, members of the Party stood firm and resisted all machinations.
Addressing the Press at Katonga offices today, he said the FDC under his leadership has began the new leap year with renewed vigor and several activities are lined up starting with Public engagement in Jinja on 19th January, as such the Party will have no time for verbal exchanges with detractors and imposters who will be sorted by the pending matters in Court.
He reiterated his stand that the FDC as an entity will continue working with other forces of change and all stakeholders, despite propaganda and unfounded allegations of merger with NUP, which is meant to create a wedge amongst forces of change.
The FDC President noted, that once again government has squandered a rare opportunity to showcase Uganda to the World during the upcoming NAM/G 77 conference and instead turned the occasion in to a looting spree as with other conferences organized before like CHOGM.
He called for realignment of NAM to its original philosophy; fight against Apartheid in South Africa, hegemony and Independence of member Countries, with unfortunately members like Uganda having been mortgaged with a debt burden standing now at Sh.98T and continued human rights abuses.
