Uganda’s Minister of ICT & National Guidance Dr. Baryomunsi appoints NITA-U Board

The Minister of ICT & National Guidance, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi has appointed a new Board of Directors for the National Information Technology Authority- Uganda (NITA-U).

The Board of Directors will be chaired by Mr. Alexander Kibandama, a legal expert and an advocate of the High Court with wealth of experience in ICT and Digital transformation.

Speaking at the inauguration Mr. Alexander said, “On behalf of the Board I would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Hon. Minister of ICT & National Guidance, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi for entrusting us with the role of guiding policy and strategies at NITA-U aimed at transforming our society”

In his remarks the Board Chair said “I have followed a number of achievements by NITA-U, like the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI), the MDA internet extension project, the recent price reduction and many more. I look forward to providing leadership and support to these initiatives that are key in transforming service delivery in the country.

Hon Chris Baryomunsi said, “Today Digitization and technology remain central in transformation of this country the reason NITA-U in 2009 was established as the lead agency on that frontline and in my view NITA-U has performed very well. As the new Board you have a lot of work to do in spearheading the Digital Transformation drive and you have our support”.

The NITA-U executive director Dr. Hatwib Mugasa welcomed the new board. “As NITA-U, we are glad to have a diverse Board to steer the ship. I thank the Ministry of ICT & NG for the leadership provided at the time when we had no Board. We look forward to tapping into your experience as we work to digitize the Nation”.

The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is an autonomous statutory body established under the NITA-U Act 2009, to coordinate and regulate Information Technology services in Uganda.NITA-U is under the general supervision of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
