Minister Nankabirwa:Nyagak III Hydroelectric Power Station is in Final Touches
The minister of energy and mineral development Dr Ruth Nankwabirwa has revealed that the 6.6MW Nyagak III Hydroelectric Power Station might be commissioned this year (2023) based on the progress at the site.
Nankabirwa gave this update during the inspection of the plant this weekend.
” I have come here to monitor the progress of this project because it’s very important and critical since the people in West Nile have been anxious to see its operations”, she noted adding that am so much impressed with the developer because whenever I visit this place I find progress and I urge the developer to continue find ways to get funds to complete the work as government also look for funds to pay back” she added.
She also pledged to sweet talk her colleague Matia Kasaija, the minister of finance, to release the remaining 28bn to complete the plant.
The minister further urged the people of West Nile to continue to be patient since there is steady progress at Nyagaka 3 power plant.
“We know that probably this year (2023) the plant will be officially commissioned to stabilize power in West Nile region” she stressed.
Nyagaka3 hydropower plant is a 6.6MW located in Paidha town council in Zombo district. Once it starts its operations, it is expected to overcome the issue of deemed power in the West Nile region.
