MTN, Centenary Technologies Ltd, USSIA donate equipment to Refuge & Hope International as part of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign

Friday 23rd June, 2023. Kampala, Uganda – MTN Uganda in partnership with Uganda Small Scale Industries Association and Centenary Technologies Ltd has today donated to Refuge and Hope International based in Kampala worth UGX 15million as part of this year’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign.
The equipment includes computers connected with a one-year free internet, retired PVC vinyl billboard material for creation of shelters for refugees as well as fabrics for tailoring business among others.
The MTN staff also participated in inspirational talks as well as training in digital and financial literacy to the refugees.
MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer, Sylvia Mulinge said the company’s support to the Refuge and Hope International is premised on the spirit of continuing to doing good in the communities in which it operates, transforming lives of communities and societies.
“We believe our contribution will help not only help Refuge and Hope International create 2,000 tarps for the vulnerable community in the camps but also help protect the environment, grow their business ventures and immensely contribute to the social and economic transformation of the youths, their families and communities,” she said.
Ms. Mulinge congratulated Refuge and Hope Internationals for imparting survival and entrepreneurship skills to the refugees.
Latest statistics from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) shows that Uganda hosts about 1.5 million people who have fled their homes mainly from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Somalia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia among others.
MTN established the 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative in 2007 to allow its employees to directly contribute to the communities in which they live and work.
This year’s campaign is supporting 8 groups across various sectors including agriculture, digital financial services and fashion and design.
So far, seven groups have received MTN support including King of Kings Multi-Investment and Consultancy Farms Ltd in Kitgum, Teso Textile Light Dynamics in Soroti City and Disability Employment Link Project Uganda based in Bwaise, Kampala.
MTN Uganda employees have over the years been involved in tens of initiatives in the communities through the 21 Days of Y’ello Care to boost their production capacity and transform their lives and that of their communities.
