KENYA: The Minister of energy and mineral development Dr Ruth Nankabirwa says that the global community must continue with the energy transition Agenda and it’s important that African countries should proactively take part in shaping the narrative by ensuring that the succession and contrast are alive to the realities of Africa and need to support the continent maximize its Oil and gas potential.
Nankabirwa revealed this at the ongoing Africa Energy Forum in Kenya’s capital Nairobi. The forum was organized under the Theme: Increasing Pace and Scale of Africa’s Renewable energy projects. The growing role of Africa’s gas within Today’s Geo-political context.

She emphasized that globally countries need adequate, reliable and affordable energy to enhance sustainable development and upholding energy as a key priority.
She confirmed to participants that Uganda is well endowed with enormous natural resources such as minerals,hydro,geothermal,petroleum resources and solar among others.
“Energy is critical in any country’s economic growth and prosperity” she said adding that Uganda’s vision by 2030 is to increase electricity access from the current 57%-100% through on grid and off grid solutions and increasing power generation to 52000MW by 2040 from the current 2000MW.

She further said that the government of Uganda has the following key priorities: to increase electricity generation capacity and transmission network, increase access to modern energy services through rural electrification and renewable energy development and increase consumption of alternative clean cooking energy among others.
