BIG HEARTED! Hundreds Benefit as Tembo Steels, NICA Hold Free Eye Medical Camp 

BUIKWE: The African leading Primary Steel firm, Tembo Steels Ltd in collaboration with the North Indian Cultural Association (NICA) of Uganda have conducted a free eye screening and cataract surgery camp at the Lugazi based plant in Buikwe, benefiting hundreds of employees.
The eye medical camp which took place on Sunday  7th  May 2023 provided care to hundreds of workers for various conditions including cataracts, refractive errors, glaucoma, eye infections, oncology conditions like retinoblastoma etc. Screening services for insidious eye conditions in the patients like Retinopathy were also provided
Speaking to our reporter, Manish Kalla the General Manager of Tembo Steels (U) Ltd said with the growing number of eye complications amongst underprivileged Ugandans, and as part of Tembo’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, they believe that helping the people with the gift of sight is a noble cause for humankind.

Manish said initiatives of this nature are highly essential as they complement government efforts.
‘’These interventions are informed by the political environment, which has allowed the investors to work in Uganda. The current government under the stewardship of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has wholeheartedly welcomed the Investors to Uganda and allowed them to freely operate their businesses and socially interact with the Ugandan community. Definitely, as people who appreciate the peace and good business environment we decide to give back to our people through various avenues including medical camps,” added Kalla.

This is the reason Tembo Steels is also driving a campaign which is raising awareness and advocacy for increased access to both preventative and therapeutic services in eye health care in Uganda.
Buikwe District leadership acknowledged the impact of the Tembo Steels Ltd and the Indian Associations in the effort to improve health and livelihoods across the country. Leaders say, the burden of eye infections is high and such camps are highly encouraged, because of complementing government efforts.
